How we chose the Name “No.5 Patisserie”

When Joy and I first sat down to name our new business, we had no idea how many cups of coffee, late-night chats, and “what about this one?” moments it would take. For weeks, we tossed ideas back and forth — from fancy French-inspired names to playful nods to our favourite bakes. Nothing quite felt right.

Then one day, while working away in our cafe (Impresso) which we recently restored, it clicked! Our cafe & bakery is housed in No.5, a historic building that has stood proudly for over 150 years. It’s full of character, with walls that could tell stories of generations past.

That little number suddenly felt big — it tied together the history of the building, our place in its ongoing story, and our own fresh chapter. No gimmicks, no overthinking. Just a name that felt authentic, rooted in where we are and who we are.

So “No.5 Patisserie” was born. Every time you walk through our cafe door, you’re stepping into a space where history meets fresh, handmade bakes & great coffee. And we like to think that somewhere in those 150 years of stories, the walls are now smiling once again.
